Lots of people get MFAs and never write again, so determination is the key factor!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03962195808757078787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6332318012806803673.post-68349182916567917452012-04-05T17:26:35.022-04:002012-04-05T17:26:35.022-04:00I would agree that most MFA programs focus on lite...I would agree that most MFA programs focus on literary writing. I didn't try to start writing YA until I was done with the program, so. . .But there are one or two programs focusing on YA/children's lit, at least. Hollins is the only come that comes to mind.

As for it being a credential, everything I've heard and read says having an MFA doesn't help you get published. It definitely doesn't do anything as far as getting an agent. The only way it can help you is through connections, as far as I can tell. I think how helpful any connections might be probably varies wildly from program to program and individual to individual.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03962195808757078787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6332318012806803673.post-54656548576650920282012-04-05T13:39:46.018-04:002012-04-05T13:39:46.018-04:00I'm sort of envious of people with MFAs, but a...I'm sort of envious of people with MFAs, but at the same time I don't know that I would fit in in an MFA program. I know that I want to write YA, and I feel like a lot of MFA programs draw a lot of people focussed on 'literary' writing. I could be way off the mark on that, but it's just an impression I have. Nevertheless, it would certainly be nice to have some credentials backing me when I go to query my stories.Jaime Morrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03023932422477544525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6332318012806803673.post-39038386153105996262012-04-05T12:18:34.839-04:002012-04-05T12:18:34.839-04:00This is an interesting topic. At the end of the day, when it comes to writing, nothing matters but your determination. Without it, you're nothing.Mina Burrowshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14483363743530076604noreply@blogger.com
