Q: What is one thing you wish you could tell your favorite author?
One thing and one favorite author? How can I possibly choose? If I had the opportunity to speak to Nabokov, Edith Wharton, George Eliot, Holly Black or Charlaine Harris, I would probably just incoherently gush with excitement.
But assuming I was able to be calm and cool, I would probably ask any of them for more information about particular characters or plot points. There's always something cut in the process of writing a novel, and getting the scoop on what didn't make it into the book would be akin to watching the cut scenes of a TV show or movie.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I'd love to lobby all of my favorite authors, living and dead, to write more about the characters and worlds that I've fallen in love with. In the end, it's probably best that I would be reduced to squeaks and blushing if I ever met one of the above mentioned authors!
Hopping through. I'd love to hang out with Edith Wharton. She makes me think of Downton Abbey. Sort of at least.

Yeah, Downton Abbey seems very related to a couple of her books, and The Buccaneers in particular.

ReplyDeleteI don't know any of those authors, but I have always wondered how many times authors scrap ideas and start over.

I think the answer is almost certainly a billion times!
DeleteOoh nice! I like Charlaine! She was one of the first authors I read when I started reading "adult" books!

Have a GREAT weekend!
Old Follower :)
I only discovered her a few years back, and I really enjoy her books. Even though I hate the way the "Grave" series ended, I'm still a fan.
DeleteI imagine you would have wonderful conversations with your favorite authors! :) sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteI responded in a similar way. Feel free to hop on over if you have the time!

I know! When I fall in love with worlds I want to know EVERYTHING. I'm totally down for a Harry Potter encycolpedia. i will tear that thing up!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be great if all of the series that we love came with encyclopedias that filled us in on things that we want to know? My fantasy is that ebooks will one day be annotated with extra info that didn't really fit in the book, and when you scroll over a particular scene that info will come up.
DeleteSometimes I just want to crawl into books and learn more about the characters and world, so I'm pretty sure after I stopped almost-fainting and telling those authors how incredible they are and how much they influenced my life (and despite reasons to believe that this isn't a good thing (like me almost fainting and being hysteric) that's a good thing) I'd start asking them questions, too. :'D

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what my reaction would be!

I just want to be friends with my favorite authors! That would be awesome. Also, I passed the Kreativ Blogger Award on to you over at my blog. I'm not sure if you've done it before, so if so don't feel pressured to do it again or anything. I just wanted to let you know!
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean! I have a secret list of fantasy friendships that I'm too embarrassed to share with the Internet.
